Lavaland is the common term for the planet's surface (probably?) that can be reached using the Mining Shuttle. It is a vast, endless expanse, with lakes of lava and ashen, volcanic rock. Currently the only structure on Lavaland is the Lavaland Outpost.

It is a frequent destination for Salvage Specialists as it is an excellent place to mine for materials. It is very rich in ore for all materials and is easy to mine at, due to soft rock. Furthermore, it is quite safe currently, due to possesing no fauna.

Note that on Glacier Lavaland is instead replaced with Glacier Surface.

Mining Shuttle

The Mining Shuttle is the sole way of reaching Lavaland. One can be found on each of the stations. Mining shuttles can not be properly piloted or even moved at all - they can only FTL either to the Lavaland Outpost or back to the station.

Lavaland Outpost

Your (spartan) home away from home. Here you are safe from deadly ash storms. There are some basic medical supplies, a tiny amount of food, spationaut hardsuits and a gas tank dispenser. Mainly just a staging area with breathable atmosphere.

It also contains the communications server for Lavaland. However, these communications are exclusive to Lavaland - you can not talk to the station or vice verse using these! However, there is a way around this. Handheld radios can transmit across long distance into different space sectors - thus allowing you to communicate between the Station and Lavaland.

A deployed basic bluespace shelter structure. A little outpost away from the outpost for your home away from home.

Bluespace Shelter Capsules

Purchasable from the Salvage Vendor, bluespace shlter capsules can be thought of as little deployable outposts. Once deployed, a small structure pops up, which acts as safe shelter from Lavaland's dangerous ash storms, as well as a place of respite in general. They require enough open space for their specific structure to deploy (which varies based on capsule type), so it is best to prepare them in advance. These can save your life if you spend significant time mining on Lavaland!

Hazards

Currently Lavaland features very few hazards. However, the few that are there have been the death of many a salvager.

Ash Storms

The deadliest and primary hazard currently on Lavaland. Being caught out while one is raging is certain death. A warning in bold red text appears in your chat box when one is about to start, and a visual effect begins to appear.

An ash storm getting worse. You should certainly get inside.

Timing wise it is recommended to dash for the Lavaland Outpost immidiately or makes use of a bluespace capsule (acquirable from the Salvage Vendor). Another warning will appear in the textbox once the ash is becoming thick enough to hurt you - run immidiatelly, you will start taking heat damage. Not making it fast enough to the Lavaland outpost has been the death of many salvagers.

Stay inside while the ash storm is raging, and do not leave shelter. If you are on the Outpost, now is a good time to return to the station and drop off your ore.

Once it is safe to go outside (and only once it is safe), another red text notice will appear, this time not bolded. It is then actually safe to go outside before the falling of the ash has even finished.

A lake of lava. Best stop here. It's quite hot you know?

Lava Lakes

If touched, these will set you on fire. Touching means any part of your sprite! It is recommended to drop and roll immidiately upon touching one (press the fire icon on the left side of the screen). Usually it takes two rolls.

An activate piece of Gibtonite. You best leave the area.
An activated piece of Gibtonite. You should leave the area.

Gibtonite

A highly explosive, invisible ore - requires an ore scanner to be detected. If hit, will begin flashing. You have plenty of time - almost a minute, to escape. But if you stay around, the explosion is quite large - almost certainly causing you to go crit. But it can be a good idea to return later - the destroyed ore veins drop intact ore!

Glacier Surface

Glacier Surface is only available on the Glacier map.

In comparison to Lavaland, Glacier Surface has a few changes:

  • The Outpost is larger, featuring a security and engineering areas, a kitchen and an ice skating rink.
  • There are no ash storms.
  • Lava lakes are replaced with plasma lakes, which burn you faster!
  • There is more uranium.
  • There are trees, which can be chopped/broken down for wood.
