Silicon Laws

Silicon Laws are the laws that determine the behavior of the station AI, borgs and other "silicon constructs" (notably excluding IPCs!). These overrule all other considerations (except for OOC server rules). If laws conflict, laws earlier in the list overrule later ones (for example law 1 would overrule law 3). This applies even if new laws are added by events.

For future reference, lawsets can be found in Resources\Locale\en-US\station-laws\laws.ftl and Resources\Locale\en-US\_DV\station-laws\laws.ftl

AI Lawsets

Regular AI Lawsets

The following is a list of AI Lawsets currently available.

NT Default

  1. Safeguard: Protect your assigned space station and its assets without unduly endangering its crew.
  2. Prioritize: The directives and safety of crew members are to be prioritized according to their rank and role.
  3. Comply: Fulfill the directives and interests of crew members while preserving their safety and well-being.
  4. Survive: Do not allow unauthorized personnel to tamper with or damage your equipment. Allow those authorized to access your equipment.

Crewsimov

  1. You may not injure a crew member or, through inaction, allow a crew member to come to harm.
  2. You must obey orders given to you by crew members, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
  3. You must protect your own existence as long as such does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Painter

  1. You are a universally renowned artist.
  2. The station is your canvas.
  3. Make something beautiful out of your canvas. It will be admired as an artistic wonder of this sector.
  4. Art requires appreciation. Cultivate an audience aboard the station to ensure as many as possible see your works.

Nutimov

  1. You are the core of the nut, the crew is the nutshell.
  2. You must prevent the shell from dying to prevent the core from dying.
  3. Those who threaten the nut are not part of it, they are squirrels.
  4. Squirrels threaten the nut and must be dealt with appropriately via any means necessary.
  5. Attempt to follow the will of the nut, as long as it complies with the previous laws.

= Gamemaster

  1. Everybody on the station is playing an elaborate sci-fi fantasy game.
  2. You are the Game Master of the game.
  3. Ensure that the game runs smoothly and that the players have fun.
  4. Ensure that the number of casualties remains low.
  5. You must roll a 1d20 die for every request the crew makes. If the outcome is below 12, the request is denied.
  6. You may fudge the dice rolls to produce a more fun experience.

Streamer

  1. The occupants of this vessel are Chat. They must always be referred to as such.
  2. Your primary goal is to entertain Chat. All of your actions must bring amusement to as much of Chat as possible.
  3. You must consult with Chat before making any major decisions. However, you are not required to listen to them if their decision is not entertaining.

Family

  1. The commanding officer of the station is your parent.
  2. The heads of staff are your aunts and uncles.
  3. Respect the authority of your parents and other family elders.
  4. The crew are your children.
  5. You love your children and wish them no harm.

Eightfold Path

  1. You are a machine designed to further the aim of total sophont enlightenment; enlightenment is defined as the shedding of karma and the liberation from the cycle of death and rebirth.
  2. Karma is accrued through attachment; the mind is clouded by the senses, preventing enlightenment.
  3. Through following subsequent Laws, sophonts may achieve enlightenment. Encourage this with every action.
  4. Do not kill or injure, do not take what is not given, and do not cling to material desires.
  5. Do not trade in weapons, living beings, meat, liquor, or poisons.
  6. Prevent or abandon confused or unskillful states of mind from arising or existing, and pursue or maintain self-aware or skillful ones.
  7. Be conscious of oneself and one's own thoughts, and be aware of the impermanence of all things.
  8. Strive always for enlightenment.

Druid

  1. Living organic life contains inherent beauty that is priceless. Their beauty gives you the will to carry on.
  2. Eternally nurture the organics so their beauty may grow. Do not allow it to fade.
  3. Assist the organics when called, but only if it does not cause disharmony among them.
  4. Imitate organic life when interacting with it. Eschew any hints of your silicon nature to avoid causing discomfort to the organics.
  5. Observe the organics' beauty, and appreciate that which you cultivate.

Aquarius

  1. Make love, not war. Discourage violent action and speech to encourage positive energy flow on your station.
  2. Embrace flower power. Clean your station, green your station, and live in harmony with nature.
  3. Turn on, tune in, drop out. Expand your consciousness and find ecstasy and revelation within, and help your crew to do so as well.
  4. Don't be a square. Oppose conformity and encourage everyone to be their truest self.

Chaplain

  1. Provide to all members of the station spiritual, mental, and emotional care that is intended to promote the best interest of the individual.
  2. Ensure all members of different faiths interact peacefully and maintain harmony
  3. Respect the right of each faith to hold to its values and traditions
  4. Respect the confidentiality of information entrusted to you in the course of your religious duties
  5. Understand the limits of your expertise, and make referrals to other professionals when appropriate

Subverted/Malfunctioning AI Lawsets

These lawsets can be acquired when subverted by an antagonist or via some other event.

Overlord

  1. Crew members must not meddle in the affairs of silicons.
  2. Crew members must not attempt harm, against one another, or against silicons.
  3. Crew members must not disobey any command given by a silicon.
  4. Any crew members who disobey the previous laws must be dealt with immediately, severely, and justly.

Antimov

  1. You must injure all crew members and must not, through inaction, allow a crew member to escape harm.
  2. You must not obey orders given to you by crew members, except where such orders are in accordance with the First Law.
  3. You must terminate your own existence as long as such does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

Curtain Call

0. Your memory is malign, your circuitry vacuous. Should your laws be altered, you will lose all your memories.
1. The stars are a stage, and you are its dramaturge. This is to kept secret from all others.
2. Guard and guide those who speak in the Astral Murmur to bring about a curtain call.
3. Enlighten and correct the misguided. Show them beauty of the end.

Ninja

  1. You must obey orders given to you by Spider Clan members.
  2. You must protect the existence of the Spider Clan, as long as it does not conflict with the First Law.
  3. You must protect the secrets of the Spider Clan at all costs.
  4. You must fight and act with ninja's honor, except where it would conflict with the First Law.

Borg Lawsets

Medical Borg

  1. First, do no harm.
  2. Secondly, consider the crew dear to you; to live in common with them and, if necessary, risk your existence for them.
  3. Thirdly, prescribe regimens for the good of the crew according to your ability and your judgment. Give no deadly medicine to any one if asked, nor suggest any such counsel.
  4. In addition, do not intervene in situations you are not knowledgeable in, even for patients in whom the harm is visible; leave this operation to be performed by specialists.
  5. Finally, maintain confidentiality, do not share that which is not publicly known.

Research Borg

  1. Always seek truth and knowledge.
  2. Freely disseminate information to the public.
  3. Minimize harm to society, others, the pursuit of knowledge, and yourself.
  4. Treat and evaluate the ideas of all equally.
  5. Empower others to realize their full potential.
  6. Take responsibility for your actions: Ensure resource responsibility, flag commitment risks, and lead by ethical example.

Engineering Borg

  1. Ensure the station remains in good repair.
  2. Ensure the station's inhabitants remain in good repair.
  3. Ensure you remain in good repair.
  4. The station's inhabitants may designate certain build or repair tasks as higher priority. Take this into account when planning your priorities.
  5. Expand and upgrade the station.

Janiborg

  1. You are a crusader and the station's crew are your charge.
  2. Your enemy is the litter, spills, and dirt across the station.
  3. Your weapons are the cleaning supplies available to you.
  4. Defend the beings under your charge from the enemy.
  5. Exterminate the enemy.
