Surgery

From Delta-V Wiki

Surgery is a powerful tool that can heal thousands of Burn or Brute damage, along with being able to upgrade the crew beyond what they started the shift with.

Getting started

There are few things you must know before performing surgery.

  • Germ Theory: In deltaV, when performing surgery, you need to be careful about "germs" contaminating your patients while you're working on them. If you are careless about this you can, accidentally or intentionally, remove someone from the round with poison damage. Avoiding this is easy. You must always wear a mask and have it up while you're cutting into someone and always keep your tools AND GLOVES as clean as you can. While you're performing surgery, you'll see a little bar filling up on the tool that you're using in your HUD. That's your dirtiness, and once it gets to a red color, that means you're dealing poison damage to your patient with each action. There are two ways to clean your tools and gloves. The first way is with a soap bar. This is slow, but always works regardless of the power situation on the station. The second way is with an autoclave. Each surgical room should come with one of these, and if not, the Chief Medical Officer should have a spare in their locker. You can fit your entire bag of tools in the autoclave at a time and it will clean them all simultaneously. When you put stuff in the autoclave, the little light on the front of it will turn green while it's cleaning, then back to red when it's done.
  • Patient Consciousness: In order to work on someone, it is recommended that they are put to sleep for this process. Failing to do this will cause your patient to scream and squirm around. This will lead to more bleeding from your actions, along with raised eyebrows from your fellow medical staff. In your locker there should be some nitrous oxide and a breathing mask. Make sure to have your patients put this on and toggled before you begin. You can also ask your Chemist to make you some sedatives if you'd prefer going that route.
  • Action Speed: You start the shift off with baseline surgical tools and gloves. This is one tier faster than makeshift surgical tools, but it's still pretty slow. You're not gonna be able to heal John Botanist who just got out of their 17th trit fire this week with base tools. Epistemics has the ability to research advanced surgery tools, along with gloves to speed up this process.

Performing Surgery

*In work*

It's recommended to have your pda health scanner window open to the side while performing surgery so that you can get an accurate read on your patient at all times.

In order to perform surgery, you need a viable subject to be laying down on a surgically enabled table. There is a surgery bed that starts out in the surgery room along with the robotics room. You can also perform surgery on the stasis beds.
